The Decision to Marry

The next topic that I want to discuss here is about "Marriage", I believe my girls' friends would have interest to read this.

Experts said that Getting married is still the norm in our society, and that normally, over 90% of us will marry at least once. Here below are some motives that make people towards marry or towards singlehood:

1. Pushes toward marriage
-- Economic security
-- Influcence from mass media
-- Pressure from parents
-- Need to leave home
-- Interpersonal and personal reasons
-- Fear of independence
-- Loneliness
-- Cultural expectations, socialization
-- Regular sex
-- Guilt over singlehood

2. Pulls toward marriage
-- Influence of parents
-- Desire for family
-- Example of peers
-- Romanticization of marriage
-- Love
-- Physical attraction
-- Emotional attachment
-- Security, social status, prestige

3. Pushes toward singlehood
-- Poor communication with mate
-- Sexual frustration
-- Lack of friends, isolation, loneliness
-- Limitations on mobility and available experience
-- Influence and participation in women's movement

4. Pulls toward singlehood
-- Career opportunities
-- Variety of experiences
-- Self-sufficiency
-- Sexual availability
-- Exciting lifestyle
-- Freedom to change and experiment
-- Mobility
-- Sustaining friendships
-- Supportive groups
-- Men's and women's groups
-- Group living arrangements
